Geure(R)a - Harrobi

The Umore Azoka 2023 Jury awards a special mention to the young company Harrobi Dantza Bertikala for its show ‘Geure(R)a’ « for its coordinated fusion of live music, image and dance » and for « its poetic common thread whose drama questions and transfers the memory of women throughout history, ending with a current question: who are the witches and who are the oppressors today?

Geure(R)a, we bring up an interview between nature, poetry, dance and video mapping. The suspended choreography by the three dancers from Harrobia is enriched with Juantxo Zeberio’s music, Toti Martinez de Lezea’s verses and Paco Gramaje’s animated projections. Who are the witches once burnt and those from today?

For years women have come together, not only to perform daily tasks, but also to enjoy their own company, to have fun and, at the same time, to exchange their knowledge and experiences.

A reality not always well seen by certain people who saw that freedom and that knowledge as a threat, as something detrimental to their status quo. And that is why in the 16th century some of the excesses and bloodiest murders in our history focused on women.

Undoubtedly, what is happening today in many countries in Europe and in the world it is still a consequence of this mentality. A mentality that clashes with respect, freedom and tolerance.

Who are the witches of today? Who are the oppressors?
